Coolpad Dazen 1 Review: Yuphoria Alternative

Coolpad entered Indian market couple of weeks ago with Dazen 1 and X7 smartphones. Dazen 1 smartphone is competing with the recently launched yuphoria while the X7 is competing with some pretty big names like OnePlus One, Mi4, Zenfone 2. We have already brought you the Hands-On initial impressions for the Dazen 1 smartphone that is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 system on chip(Soc). So the Dazen 1 smartphone is a perfect yuphoria killer? Can it survive the competition? Let's find out the answers to these questions.

Dazen 1 Smartphone Specifications:
  • 5-inches HD 720p Display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64bit Processor
  • Adreno 306 GPU
  • 2GB Ram, 8GB internal Storage(SD card slot)
  • 8-megapixel autofocus primary camera
  • 5-megapixel fixed front focus camera
  • 64-bit enabled
  • 2,500mAh battery
  • 4G LTE, Dual SIM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS

Starting of the Review with the Design of the Device, On the first look the device resembles Redmi 2 smartphone but slightly bigger in size nothing like we are complaining but it should be mentioned. On top of the device, it has 3.5mm audio jack and nothing to accompany it, on the bottom it has USB port for charging and data transfers. On the left side, it has volume rockers and the buttons are tactile and offer a good amount of feedback when pressed, on the right side we are left with power on/off button. The back feature primary camera module with LED Flash, a secondary mic for noise cancelation, coolpad branding. On ripping the back panel we get access to the 2,500mAh user removable battery unit, Dual micro SIM slots, and SD card slot that supports up to 32GB.  The back panel is Matt finish, so a constant cleaning is necessary as it attracts smudges very quickly. On the front, there is 5-megapixel selfie shooter(more on that later), usual set of sensors, 5-inch display, and three touch type capacitive buttons that do light up when pressed and also offer haptic feedback. The build quality of the smartphone is decent nothing major to complain. It feels comfortable for one-handed usage, the rounded edges wouldn't hurt the hands while using the device. On the whole, the device has nothing unique to offer but it might appeal tot he people who prefer comfort over uniqueness.

Design Rating: 3/5.

Next up is the Display of the Device, the smartphone features 5-inches HD 720p display that has no protection, but it should survive sudden drops up to some extent. It is good to see a 720 panel over the 5-inch display as no sort of pixelation is seen and is sharp most of the times. But we are concerned about the yellowish tint that is visible while viewing the device at certain angles and another cons of the display is that it is reflective making it even hard to see in bring daylight. As said the display has no screen protection, so it is recommendable to use a screen protection if you are planning on purchasing the device.

Display Rating: 3/5.

Coming to the Performance of the Device, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.2GHz Quad-Core 64bit processor, Unlike some Chinese branded smartphones that come with MediaTek processors. The device has Adreno 306GPU coupled with 2GB of Ram meaning it can run pretty anything in PlayStore except for high end graphic intense games. The day-to-day performance of the device is smooth as butter and it does justice for light users but once you plan to play massive graphic intense games you might end-up little disappointed as the games do not run as expected. We installed games like Aspahlt-8, Real Racing 3 and Nova 3 these games were not playable in highest graphic settings but once you shift to the medium level visual quality they are playable, and no frame drops noticed. A positive point about the device is that it doesn't warm quickly. During our testing, we have played various games and ran applications that test the real performance of the device but not once the device heated up.

Note: There is GSensor Calibration issue with the device, and we couldn't find a way to fix.

Performance: 3.25/5.

The device runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat Operating System with customized interface knows as Cool U.I. Just like any other Chinese smartphones interface there is no app drawer, the applications get installed on the home screen. Though there is nothing new to discuss the interface as said it is just like any other Chinese branded smartphones there is no lag or glitter in the U.I as we saw it in the Redmi 2. Thanks to the 2GB of Ram the apps open up real quick, and the multitasking is also decent. Overall the only con will be the older Android version and company has not disclosed any time frame regarding the Android 5.0 update.

U.I Rating: 3/5.

The device features 8-megapixel autofocus Primary Camera with LED flash with secondary mic for noise cancellation, the front packs 5-megapixel fixed focus selfie shooter. There are various modes like Beauty, Gif animation, HDR, Pro Mode, Night shot, Filters are also available by default. However, the rear camera performance is disappointing. The primary camera was not able to focus on things nearby which should make it difficult to capture decent images but if you a bit far from the object you want to focus the camera works fine then. Due to the focusing issue the images turn out to be blurry, and colors look washed out. The daylight shots are decent if you aren't focusing on any particular object, it can capture the good amount of details, but the colors are over saturated. There is a pro mode that allows you to adjust the iSO levels, White Balance manually, the night mode works well in capturing low light shots.  Images below show the camera performance.

Camera: 2.75/5.

The device packs 2,500mAh user removable Battery. Battery department is the area where the Coolpad Dazen 1 smartphone races ahead of the competition. The battery performance is excellent a typical user gets a day and half back up/ stand by time before they device runs out of juice. On continues moderate to heavy use, the device gives 6-8 hours of standby time. It lasted for about 12 hours in our continuous video playback that is quite impressive and gladly recommend the Dazen 1 smartphone.

Battery: 4/5

Connectivity features include 4G LTE on SIM 1 while the SIM 2 is only 3G/2G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB port for data transfers. However, the device doesn't support OTG. The LED notification light upon receiving any push notifications. There are Proximity, light, accelerometer sensors built-in.  8GB of internal storage can be further expanded with an SD card that holds up to 32GB.

Verdict: The Coolpad Dazen 1 may not be a perfect competitor for Yuphoria but it a good alternative. The dazen 1 smartphone impress with Battery, performance, build quality but fails to impress in camera and display departments. The device is priced at 6,999 and is available via Snapdeal via flash sales. Below listed are Pro's and Con's

Pro's
  • Battery life
  • Performance
  • 4G enabled
Con's
  • Display
  • Camera
  • No OTG
  • Android version
Competition:
  • Yu Yuphoria
  • Redmi 2
  • Lenovo A6000+

Our Rating: 75/100

OnePlus Two Smartphone Test Unit Appears in Contest Teaser

Finally, OnePlus Two has made its first appearance. As we all are aware that OnePlus has started a promotion(contest?) to promote OnePlus Two smartphone that might be launched by the end of this month. As a part of a promotion the company today has posted a photo on their facebook official page and gave a hint stating OnePlus Two engineer test unit is being pictured. Though we don't  get to see the device thanks to landscape mode placement but we can see the display. The display looks bigger covering most of the screen and also features slim bezels, may or may not feature on-screen buttons. Do note the company has mentioned this as engineer unit so it may vary design wise while it goes official.

Thanks to a team of PhoneRadar we hear news about the launch date that is being scheduled on June 28th. The irony is that the contest that are presently going on will be ending in the third week of June( the company has just mentioned June). Companies Co-founder Carl Pei says that the OnePlus Two will also be made available via Invitation system but the number of invitations this time would be more than that of last time that sent out extremely limited number.

LG G4 Pro To Feature Metal Body

Back in May there were few reports that pointed to yet another high-end smartphone from LG that might be called as G4 Pro, and the device could be made out of Metal, unlike any other LG smartphone. When we say unlike the G4 Pro will be the first LG device to feature Metal construction. The news from ET reports that LG is in plans to design the G4 pro with Metal so that it can be easy differentiate it from normal G4 smartphone. That is made of plastic but has a good build quality though. People who work for LG has an idea to test the Metal G4 Pro as a prototype first and if everything goes well according, the device can be later released to the market that isn't a bad idea at all as LG has never tested its luck with metal.

However the problem comes with the production cost, rivals like Apple, Samsung are selling their smartphones that are made of Metal. LG is worried about the production cost that might decrease the profitability levels compared to Samsung and Apple, which are selling more number of units compared to LG. Valid point. Besides the build quality we expect the G4 pro to feature bigger display compared to normal G4, we have seen this scenario earlier with G2 and G2 pro where the G2 Pro featured a 5.9-inches display and might also have a stylus Pen so that it can compete with Samsung Note 5 which is due for this September. For now there is no official information from LG regarding the G4 Pro (may be something else) but we will let you know once its official.

ZTE Blade Qlux Cheapest 4G Smartphone Launched in India

ZTE branded Nubia Z9 Mini Smartphone enteredIndia couple of weeks back ZTE has already brought another smartphone to their list. It's been a while since we have a ZTE branded smartphone apart from Nubia (which is part of ZTE) devices. The company has today launched Blade Qlux smartphone that is the India's cheapest 4G smartphone, just like the Z9 mini the Qlux is also an Amazon. In an exclusive device that is expected to go on sale from coming Tuesday for price od 4.999.

The specifications of the device are, it sports 4.5-inches FWVGA display, and you are literally expecting more if you'd think a device for 5,000 to feature Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.  Powered by MediaTek MT6732M clocked at 1.3GHz Quad-Core processor coupled with 1GB of Ram and has 8GB of internal storage with an SD card slot that supports up to 32GB. Install iOS 9 Beta 1 on Your Apple Device

Apple has just announced iOS 9 though there aren't any significant changes brought over the upgraded version except for Siri voice integration and better understanding. Apart from this Apple has also said that the next version will bring better battery life, enhanced security features to better usability.
A New Caller ID that display the caller ID of any unknown caller. Suppose you get a call from any anonymous user the caller ID searches your inbox/mail to check whether the number is related to you or not. Notes App is being refined a lot with support to add web pages directly to notes and brings better annotations as well.  Transit directions are finally in the Apple Maps this should come in handy when trying to search for Station directions or any similar search. The maps now display the distance between two points. Apple has taken a hint from Flipboard and made their app called The News. The app embeds videos and photo gallery that already present in the website while showing them. This will surely be a useful feature if you are looking for one-stop information.  Apple's way of introducing the Multitasking feature that is already present in Android is called the Slipt screen do note this feature is limited to iPad devices. What it does is, it allows users to run two apps at the same time on same screen, nothing impressive but it's good Apple has included a well-established feature.

Availability is what that matters right? The iOS9 will be made available or rolled out to the public from this Fall and any Apple device running on iOS8 will get the update. Surprised? But if you are the one who known what he is doing then you are in luck, Apple released the Beta Version of iOS9 today. Meaning if you are interesting and can survive few bugs you can proceed with installing the Beta version of iOS 9 and the detailed instructions below will help/guide you.

How to Install iOS9 Beta 1:

Nothing new to say but do take a Backup fo the data required as the device will be formatted. Next up charge your device to at least 70-80% as the process will take quite some time.

Head over to iMZDL as this is our one stop source for all iOS files and download the files according to your device.

On a very surprising note, you don't need to register your device UDID this time around. The means you can directly flash the OS just by taking backup fo your data. Do note this process is skipped only for iOS9 but may require for older versions.

Once you have downloaded the OS files Extract them to any comfortable location on your PC. Then connect your Apple device to any iTunes installed PC.

Once your device is detected by iTunes click on Check For Updates. You must search for the Update file on your PC, not Online. Before proceeding to click on Check for Updates Press Hold Option button(Mac) or Shift key(windows). Doing so will force the iTunes to search for update locally.

Select the IPSW file that you just downloaded and click proceed. The update process should begin now, and it won't take longer before you see your device running iOS9.

Note: Don't panic if your device restarts in the meantime, that's the way it goes.

Everything You Need To Know About Yu Yuphoria (Q&A, Features)

For its first installment Yu, A subsidiary brand of Micromax has launched Yureka Though there are many things to complain about the device thanks to CyanogemMod people were in a rush to buy the smartphone. Now the company has come up with Yuphoria, A device that is not an upgrade to the Yureka but not a disappointment at the same time. During launch the companies Ceo, Rahul Sharma was mainly focusing on the design and build, well what do we think about it? Not bad at all, but at the same time the design can't be called as a complete rip off Lumia 830 but on first glance we feel that way. There quite a few things you got to know before you decide to go with it, Don't worry we are here to explain the things that we feel you should know.

Saturn Rings: One of the many things company was raving about is the Saturn rings. The camera on Yuphoria is 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash, The camera is located exactly in the center of a back panel. The Saturn rings around the rear camera sure reminds us about the Lumia 830(as mentioned above) though it is look alike, it makes sense and a point. Saturn rings helpes the device in capturing an image in a better way. Saturn rings will be used in all Yu branded smartphones from now on. On the front, there is 5-megapixel fixed focus selfie camera that can record videos in 720p. The camera performance is decent and is capable of capturing excellent images given ample amount of light and environment. while the front camera does justice for what the company claims.

Metal Construction: Though the company says that Yuphoria is made of Metal, but that isn't compltely true. The rims of the smartphone are made of metal while the rest is all plastic; Even the Saturn rings at the back are made of plastic. The back panel is removable giving access to SD card and SIM card slots and a removable 2,230mAh battery with backup upto 5-7 hours of continuous usage. On the front there no touch type capacitive buttons they are inbuilt on the screen. Light and proximity Censors and 5MP selfie camera. On the sides three phase buttons(company calls) two volume buttons and power on/off button in the middle that are made of metal.

Processor: The Yu Yuphoria is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Soc clocked at 1.2GHz Quad-Core processor with Adreno 306GPU. Coupled with 2GB of Ram and 16GB internal storage, though we have many other competitors with same Soc in market like the A6000, Redmi 2 but the reason for Yuphoria having an edge over those is simply the extra 1gig of Ram. For 6,999, we are getting more than what we are paying. Keeping aside the price, the device can run pretty much anything we throw at it flawlessly. Another key highlight is the Cyanogen powered operating system, CM 12 based on Android 5.0.2 lollipop.  Performance wise the device has nothing to worry.

The Heating: Unlike the Yu yureka that is powered by Qualcomm 615that is known for overheating. The yuphoria doesn't heat that easy unless you are running heavy graphical intense games. Thanks to the SD 410 the device supports 64Bit architecture which will have a prominent role in the future.

Better Display: Smartphone above 5.5-inches should feature a 720p screen if used the display looks pixilated and doesn't look sharp. Thanks to the 5-inches display the 720p display on yuphoria looks sharp and color contrast is accurate. When compared with Yureka the display on Yuphoria is definitely on the upper side.

So here you go these were some of the things you need to know before you go with Yuphoria.
