Asus Zenfone Selfie Hands-On Initial Impressions

Asus has launched the Zenfone Selfie smartphone in India yesterday at an event in Delhi, we were there at the event and got to spend some time with the smartphone. Here are the specifications of the device, device sports 5.5-inches FHD(1980*1080p) display which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and has 72% screen to body ratio. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615Soc clocked at 1.7GHz Octa-Core processor with Adreno 405GPU coupled with 2GB Ram and 16GB internal storage and another variant with 3GB Ram and 32GB internal storage and an SD card slot for memory expansion up to 64GB. There is a 13-megapixel primary camera with Real Tone LED flash and laser autofocus and a 13-megapixel selfie camera with Real LED flash and f/2.2 aperture. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, Dual SIM, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, etc. There is a 3,000mAh battery to power the device. Runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Zen U.I 2.0 on top of it.

Let's start talking about the design of the device; There is no major design change over the Zenfone 2 smartphone, but that's nothing we would want to complain being an IFA design award winner we can make peace with the design of the device for now but Asus might want to come up with a new design language the next time. On the front, there is a huge 5.5-inches FHD IPS display with 403 pixels per inch, also the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. From our initial impressions, the display looked sharp and crisp also the viewing angles are also good. The 13-megapixel selfie camera accompanied with Dual LED flash and Laser autofocus helps in shooting perfect selfies. On top of the device, there is 3.5MM audio jack and power on/off button and secondary noise cancellation mic. On the back, also a 13-megapixel primary camera with Laser autofocus and volume rockers.  There is absolutely nothing on either of the sides.

Though the device is selfie centric, Asus hasen't skipped on the internals of the device. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615Soc clocked at 1.7GHz Octa-Core processor and you have 2GB/3GB Ram options to choose from, the 2GB Ram comes with 16gigs of storage and the 3GB version comes with 32gigs of storage, both these can take in an SD card slot for memory expansion. Yes it is something we have learnt over months that SD 615 has heating issues and it throttles a lot while gaming but it's just too soon to judge the performance of the device. Unless we review the device we won't be commenting on the performance. The key highlight of the device is 13-megapixel selfie camera with Real LED flash I mean we have seen smartphones that had same megapixels count earlier but what struck us the most is the Real TONE LED flash which really helps in capturing better images in low-light and also gathers a lot of details.

On opening the back panel, we get access to the SIM card slots and a MiroSD card slot for memory expansion, and the 3,000mAh battery is removable which Asus users were asking for a long time now. So there you guys here are our initial Hands-on impressions of the Asus zenfone Selfie smartphone and we will be coming up with the full in-depth review of the device over the next couple of weeks so till then stay tuned for Zenfone Laser and Deluxe impressions, which were also launched yesterday.

Earlier: Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has been in new for sometime now, thanks to various leaks most of the details are now with us also Samsung has scheduled an Unpack event on August 13th, 2015.  This rumours roundup article will cover most of the specifications that we know so far, also do note that these details might changes when we actually see the product officially.

Display & Design: The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 sports 5.7-inches QHD display (1440*2560 resolution) with Corning Gorilla Glass four protection. Just as we would expect, The note sports a huge display, now Samsung displays were always delight to look at. Design wise the Note 5 is expected to undergo some design changes over the last year's Note 4 and what looks like a mixture between S6 and Note 4. The exact dimensions of the upcoming phablet: 153.3 x 76.1 x 7.9mm with slimmer bezels and a larger home button which we assume will also act as a touch type fingerprint sensor. On the bottom there is MicroUSB port for charging and data sync accompained with speaker grills and 3.5MM audio jack, we wish Samsung must have included the USB type C instead of the normal USB port. While on the top we jus have the secondary noise cancellation mic. On the back Huge camera module with LED flash and Samsung branding.

Internals: The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is powered by Samsung's very own Exynos chipset 7422, the speciality of the device is it combines are the hardware into single chipset i.e EPoP which combines the Ram, Rom and GPU. Why this becomes special is that stacking up all the components under same roof gives area to other components like huge battery of 4,100mAh capacity which will obviously have wireless charging ability. There is 4GB of DDR4 Ram coupled with 32GB internal storage which may or may not have an SD card slot. A glance at the specifications made us feel another beat from Samsung is incoming.

Camera Module: If there is any feature that we like the most in a Samsung smartphone is that should be its camera, The galaxy note 5 sports a 16-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and has optical image stabilizations and a 5-megapixel front camera. Now the device isn't offical so we wont comment on the actual performance of the device but we expect it to reach our expectations.

When is it launching?: Okay so far the specification looks good but when is it launching? Samsung is holding an event called Unpack on August 13th, 2015 so the device might go official on the same day. Stay tuned for more such information.

OnePlus To Launch New Smartphone By The End of This Year: Carl Pei

OnePlus has launched the Two smartphone on 27th July and we couldn't be more excited about the device but before we post our full in-depth review here is yet another awesome news for OnePlus fans. Today in an interview with USA today Carl Pei, co-founder of the OnePlus has revealed that the company will be launching yet another new smartphone by the ned of this year and the smartphone may or may not have higher specifications. Sadly he did not leave any details of the smartphone as of yet but he said to have seen prototype of the smartphone and says that it will be his daily driver in near future. So we are expecting the device must be in its final stages of production.

When asked about the missing NFC feature he says That "Entire issue of NFC is overblown. Very few people are using NFC, so we cut it. It's as simple as that. I know that Android Pay is coming but all that is in the future. It (NFC) is going to gain widespread adoption in stores 12-18 months from now. By that time people will have moved on to the next device". Apart from smartphone onePlus is aiming to make their software, OxygenOS, compatible with everyone's stuff. OnePlus also made fitness tracker but we scrapped it because that is exactly against our open culture. We want to work with other people. By making our own we are already competing with our potential partners before even approaching them and giving them a chance.
